Serving the Community of Southern Holderness

Outside Image of Shores The South Holderness Resource Centre (SHoRes Centre) has been established by the local community campaigning long and hard for a provision that can benefit each and every individual within Southern Holderness. The result of this public demand is a bespoke building that currently accommodates various community groups as well as function room, meeting room, IT and multi-media facilities, as well as a healthy living kitchen that provides healthy nutritional meals.

In summary we are “Serving the community of the Southern Holderness”...

Background of SHoRes

The need for a centre was identified during the 1990’s when local voluntary and community groups realised the advantages to them of sharing facilities in one building instead of being spread out around the area. There were public meetings and consultations held to discuss this and other regeneration projects. The Management Committee was formed with representatives from these organisations, town council and members of the community. All of the charity’s trustees and almost all of the Management Committee live locally.

The volunteers in the Centre are all people from the Southern Holderness and we have found suitable local candidates for the staff positions within the centre as they know the area and its people well.

In 2005, the SHoRes Centre won the prestigious award of best community project as well as best overall project in the Yorkshire and Humber Market Town Awards.
